A good way to determine that is to place your fingers between the wall and the piece of tack strip. Nail the strips 1 2 from the wall. Installing your own wall to wall carpet may sound daunting but with the right tools and some perseverance you can certainly install carpet yourself. The tacks on the strips are sharp and could poke through the carpet and hurt your feet.

After the carpet is attached along the first wall trim the excess from the edge using a wall carpet trimmer. Nail the strips 1 2 from the wall image 2. Secure them with the pre driven nails into the subfloor keeping the strip out from the wall about 2 3 the thickness of the carpet. If you have carpet already in place be prepared to remove it before moving on.

Clean and prep the floor. The tacks on the strips are sharp and could poke through the carpet and hurt your feet. Keep the tool s shoe pressed tightly against the carpeting and keep the carpet tight against the baseboard as you guide it along the wall. Install tack strip around the entire perimeter of the room making sure to maintain a 3 8 gulley between the tack strip and the baseboard.

Installing carpet can be hard on your knees and back and you should be prepared to take some time to get the job done. Cut lengths of tackless strip to fit each wall around the perimeter of the room. Don t install tackless strips across thresholds or doorways.
